Creating a Digital Storytelling

Digital storytelling is a combination of storytelling with the mixture of digital texts, audio narration, and music about a specific topic.

We were given 3 weeks to decide on whether to create a PSA, a how to project or a fictional story. And It was a group task so I and my friend, Meryem, chose the fictional storytelling and prepared it together. After finding a topic started to write our script. We used Pixton to do all of these. It is a tool that allows learners and teachers display their knowledge in an entertaining way via constructing their own comics. It has a very simple page layout so you can easily harmonize with it. However, there isn’t a lot of options you can use for free so I don’t think I would recommend you this site.

After constructing our comic, we recorded our voices(I also had some help from my brother to narrate Billy) to put them together. I used Movavi Video Editor. At first its interface looked complicated to me, but after starting to use it I realized it was pretty comfortable for editing a video. So, I really liked its simplicity but the huge filigree on the video was quite disappointing.

Digital stories can encourage students to be creators of media which is one of the main purposes of the 21st century learning skills. And I believe that language teacher’s usage of them as a tool in their classes would be very beneficial to learners since they would arouse much more interest between them. Ican definitely say I really enjoyed doing this homework :)
